Attitude

by: Charles Swindoll
The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitude

There Are no Unimportant Jobs!!!!

All work can be infused with meaning, passion and a dedication to world class service because ultimately the way you manage your job or career is a reflection of your own personal standards and not the company that you work for.

Once again it all comes down to magical ingredient called attitude. It’s the salt in a great dish. You’re the dish---your attitude is what makes you scrumptious. So how would you like your prospective employer to view you? BLAND or SCRUMPTIOUS?

I read this recently and loved it…The Story of the Stonecutters

The first was asked what he was doing. The reply was: "I’m cutting a bunch of rocks." The second responded: "I'm building a wall." The third smiled and said with deep pride: "I'm building a cathedral."

My inspiration today is because I have spent the day opening no less than a hundred cv.s. So you can imagine how I am excitedly looking for those candidates that care enough to tell me enough about their jobs in their job descriptions.

Here’s the scenario:-

CV 1

Tosca Tools - Sales Representative: - 2003 – 2006

* Sold hardware to retail stores

Reason for leaving: - Market in recession/terrible boss, taking him to CCMA-will go into detail in my interview.

Lovely, can’t wait to see this star.

CV 2

Tosca Tools, Edinburgh - Sales Representative: - March 2003 – December 2006

• Marketed company’s hardware range (www.toscatools.com) to commercial/retail and residential sector.

• Cold called to generate appointments and leads

• Set up telephonic appointments to conduct presentations of product range

• Built up client base from 12 clients to 250 clients in a matter of 3 months

• Achieved salesman of the month in January 2004 for exceeding target and closing International account with HR Corporation.

• Built up loyal customer base through retention business and regular maintenance through client visits and telephonic contact.

• Marketed the company’s services via email mailing lists.

• Worked in a team environment planning market strategy and also keeping abreast of competitor activity.

Reason for leaving: - I had an opportunity to develop my career further by joining Magnum UK to market their latest range of high tech automated tools, which I saw had fantastic potential in the market. This move allowed me to grow substantially on a financial basis as well.

References: - Mr. Derek Kathos
Telephone: - 055 768 989
Position: - Managing Director
(I also have previous commission statements if necessary and a written reference)

So here’s your opportunity to be the decision maker. Who would you want to interview to work in your company? Maybe this visual presentation of a human being on paper gives you an idea of how important it is to do yourself justice and take the time to market yourself well enough. It shows that you care enough about yourself and are proud of your achievements and will work for the prospective employer with exactly that kind of integrity when you market his products.

So even though you're applying with an agency, choose to brand yourself well. If you don’t want to be a number in an incredibly competitive market, take the time to plan your CV well and detail your experience. Don’t assume anything and take for granted that a client can sniff that you closed a major account in June 2007 with a company that perhaps he himself has been trying to negotiate to do with business over the past year.

There are high achievers in the market and you have to do whatever it takes to make yourself stand out from the rest. So whether you have been a waitress or a Managing Director, care about yourself and your career enough to take the time to show your prospective employer why ‘YOU’ are worth interviewing.

So go ahead, send me a great cv…Melinda@hrcorp.co.za

Dont wear this to an interview please!!!!!

A BAD ATTITUDE!!!!

Yes a great attitude is the best attire for an interview! Have you been going for endless interviews and just not closing the deal or getting the job?
Are you perhaps feeling dumbfounded? You said the right things right? So what went wrong? Your outfit was a designer label...

Well my insight is the insiders info--I get to hear 'why' you didnt get the job and and I'm here to guide you to closing the deal and getting that job you really desire.

Embracing the right attitude starts way before your interview, not just during the interviewing process. Its having the right product knowledge that allows that positive attitude to shine through. What product knowledge you ask?

You are the product. When you are being interviewed, you are basically asking the client to 'buy' you, your services. You're telling him why he will gain a return on his investment. You're telling him why he just cannot do without your expertise. In order to market yourself effectively, you need to know beyond any doubt where your strengths lie. Where have you gotten the majority of your experience? What major clients have you brought on board for the different companies you have worked for in the past or present? What were your achievements that really stand out? Did you exceed targets, meet them consistently? Do you have a passion for a specific type of service or product that may be related to his company. Are you tenacious in your pursuit for service excellence. Do you do YOUR best in every situation? Do you see that cup half full? Do you enjoy client interaction, is one of your strengths the ability to effectively listen to a clients needs in order to secure retention business. Did you research this company well before you stepped onto their premises? Did you leave him/her with an impression of your leadership style, do you believe in taking your team to the top with you? How have you previously invested yourself and your time in your jobs---do you feel as though you own the companies you work for--thereby taking accountability for your results in stead of blaming outside factors?

OR

Did you spend your interview telling him what an awful boss you have currently. How you really hated all your jobs and all the staff were really mean and obnoxious? Did you tell him that you're not sure what you really want to do in your career, how you'll give it a try and see how it goes? How you have dealt with some really creepy customers and you told them to take a hike? Did you tell him/her how underpaid and overworked you are? Did you make sure to tell him how the glass is half empty? Did you sit through this interview aksing the client to tell you more about his company and why you should want to work for him?Did you leave him with the impression that you are a follower and have very little leadership potential so its best that he holds your hand through this position? Did you tell him how you cant wait to get out of that joke of a company? Oh and this one is good---Did you tell him/her how the recession made sure that you never attained your targets and that things are just so bad Internationally that there is just no hope any more?

If you read both paragraphs carefully enough, its clear as to whom the client will offer the job to---ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING.

A positive confident individual is magentic and draws opportunities with their infectious spirit. They leave everyone wanting more and believing in them enough to give them an opportunity. They humbly express their interest and enthusiasm to work for such a fabulous organisation. They talk with honour and respect about their previous jobs that allowed them the financial opportunity to feed their families and ultimately made them who they are today by allowing them different experiences to grow within their professions. They have no resentment and bitterness - remember that like attracts like--Take the right attitude and you will get the right attitude back.

I encourage you to make your commitment to brilliance. Your first impression counts millions so wow them with your million dollar smile and genuine optimistic attitude that is guaranteed to make you an irresistible investment.

So if you're ready and smiling that gorgeous smile - send me your cv, melinda@hrcorp.co.za and lets make it happen together.

Belief in the vision of your future

Believe in yourself
and your vision of the future.
Surround yourself with
those who believe in you
and will help you achieve
your goals.
Keep your dream alive
despite the challenges
along the way.
There will always be those
who try to steal your dream
by laughter or criticism.
They cannot understand what
drives you to always want more.
In safety, there is no failure —
neither is there success.
Only by taking the risks
that others fear
can you achieve greatness.

Change can be frightening,
but only by changing
can you experience growth.
Only by challenging yourself
to do what seems impossible
can you ever know how much
you can achieve.

There is only one key
to success:
never quit until you win.
It may require a lot of changing,
but you can do it.

The seed of greatness
lies within you.

Nurture it, and there
will be nothing you can’t do..
